This was my first attempt at making pizza. I am not a pizza person, but after this time I am starting to appreciate homemade pizza. My step daughter is back with us for the summer holidays. Pepperoni pizza is her favourite. She really enjoyed this recipe, so, I guess it is successful.

The pizza crust is a bit thick as my step daughter loves thick crust. You may use the below Pizza Crust recipe for two 10” thin crust pizza.

How To Make Homemade Pepperoni Pizza

Yields: One thick 11" pizza

INGREDIENTS:

Pizza crust (for one 11" pizza)

300g bread flour
190g water
2 tsp active instant yeast
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil

Toppings: (for one 11" pizza)

1 tbsp olive oil
½ cup pasta sauce (HEINZ brand)
100 g pizza topping cheese (mixture of grated mozzarella cheese and finely grated parmesan cheese)
15 slices beef pepperoni
2 tbsp fresh basil
1 tsp of dried oregano leaves
Black pepper

METHOD:
  1. Combine all the pizza crust ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer. Knead with dough hook until the dough comes together and forms a tacky ball, but does not stick to the bowl. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a ball. If the dough is too dry, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time. The total kneading time is about 10 minutes.
  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, about 45 - 60 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven together with baking tray inside at 220C (top and bottom heat) or 200C (fan forced) 15 minutes before baking.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface . Form into a ball. Roll the dough out 11 inches diameter. Place on a lightly greased pan or non-stick baking paper.
  5. Spread an even layer of pizza sauce over the pizza. Top with the pizza topping cheese and place the pepperoni slices.  Drizzle some extra virgin olive oil on top.
  6. Slide the pizza together with parchment paper onto preheated baking tray. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and topping with dried oregano, black pepper and basil leaves. Slice and serve immediately.
